Lisa McCormick says Americans must rise up to the responsibility of citizenship

Hey, <<First Name>> <<Last Name>>

I am a Democrat with a long record of clashing with corrupt political bosses, because I've been deeply committed to justice, equality and a clean environment even when corporate campaign contributors find those things inconvenient.

As a member of MoveOn.org, I spearheaded efforts to combat gun violence, advocated for consumer protection, and pushed for crucial banking reform. I helped organize the 2004 'get out the vote' effort in Rahway, and I went to Virginia in 2008 to help campaign for Barack Obama.

I served on the legislative staff of now-Senate President Nicholas Scutari. More than a few mayors and other elected officials are personal friends from whom I gained valuable insights into the inner workings of our government.

In 2010, I stepped up as a candidate for County Clerk and led the Democrats for Change team, capturing 47 percent of the vote in Union County's primary election. I attribute that to the commitment of our team and our vision for a better future.  In the 2018 Democratic primary election, when I challenged Senator Bob Menendez, I earned four out of ten votes. For my efforts, the notorious Republican dirty trickster who shut down the George Washington Bridge labeled me "a shadowy perennial candidate" and some lazy reporters have echoed the lie that I am 'unknown.'

Beyond the political arena, I've also been actively engaged in my community as the secretary of the PTA at my son's elementary school, working on environmental causes, and trying to make a positive impact on the world around me.

The Doomsday Clock says it's 90 seconds to midnight but our political system is broken

Americans must rise to the responsibility of citizenship! There is nobody coming to rescue us if we fail to save ourselves.  I do not trust the political establishment that picked Bob Menendez to exhibit more wisdom in choosing his replacement. Instead of corrupt politician or greedy millionaire, I feel New Jersey would be better served by one of us (a normal person like you or me).

I only became a candidate because of the gravity of problems confronting our world and the inadequacy of our current government leadership.  I am fighting for my life, and I will continue to fight as long as there is life in me with which to work to bring about the change our world so desperately needs.

PS/ My journey into politics was driven by the pressing challenges our world faces and a deep belief in the need for effective and responsible government leadership but I have always acknowledged that I cannot do this alone. Please volunteer if you cannot afford to contribute financially. And if you can, do both!  I will keep going without you, but everyone will suffer if we fall short.
