'Human Nature' e 'The Damned Yard' in world premiere at Rotterdam Film Festival

The films by Mónica Lima and André Gil Mata will have their world premiere in the Ammodo Tiger Competition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), which runs from 25 January to 5 February 2023.

Human Nature (Portugal/ Germany, FIC 25′), directed by Mónica Lima, takes off from a flat in a confining city, to expand one day between the beginning of spring and the end of summer, on a couple's life of mismatches. The film is produced by Uma Pedra no Sapato and co-produced by DFFB and New Matter Films. The Damned Yard (Portugal, FIC, 46'), by André Gil Mata, is an adaptation of the short story 'A Fratricide', by Franz Kafka, with the narrative being built through superpositions of the same present moment, from the perspective of four characters: Schmar, his brother Mr. Wese, Mrs.Wese and the neighbour Pallas. Made with the support of Filmaporto Film Commission, the film is produced by Primeira Idade, Rua Escura and Agente a Norte. The films by Mónica Lima and André Gil Mata will have their world premiere in the Ammodo Tiger Competition of the Rotterdam International Film Festival, which runs from 25 January to 5 February.

MÓNICA LIMA studied Fine Arts/Painting in Lisbon and Writing and Directing in Prague and Berlin. Her short films 'The Silence Between Two Songs', 'Viktoria' and 'Saturn Summer' were screened in several international and national festivals (Angers Premiers Plans, Leuven, Dresden, Vila do Conde) and received awards and special mentions. She has worked as a screenwriter and script advisor as well as assistant director in films and advertising. She is currently developing her first fiction feature film, which received financial support for Writing and Development from ICA. She was also selected for the Les Arcs Talent Village and for the Oxbelly Lab Writing and Directing residency (Sundance/Faliro House).

ANDRÉ GIL MATA is a director, screenwriter, actor and director of photography. He has a PhD in film directing at film.factory in Sarajevo. He founded the laboratory Átomo47 and the production company Bando à Parte, and he is the co-founder of Rua Escura. In 2010 he was selected for the Berlinale Talent Campus. 'Water Ark', his debut film, received several awards, followed by 'Casa', premiered at IndieLisboa'01. 'The Gravedigger' (2012) received the Melliers l'Argent, Best MotelX Film, Best FIKE Animation and Caminhos de Cinema Português awards. 'Cativeiro' (2012) received the DocAlliance award at Cannes (2013), and was awarded at DocLisboa, Curitiba and Cáceres. 'Kako sam se Zaljubio u Evu Ras' received a Special Mention at FIDMarseille (2016). 'The Tree' (2018), his latest feature film, had its world premiere at Berlinale Forum (2018) and received awards in Lima, Lisbon and Coimbra. His most recent feature film 'Sob a Chama da Candeia' is currently in post-production. 'The Damned Yard' is his most recent short film.
